A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
The Wizard of Esotyre
The legendary wizard from the Forest of Esotyre has given you a chance to learn from him. Want to gain his full magical knowledge? Create a series of potions and enchantments to convince him that you are worthy of being his successor.
Description
The Wizard of Esotyre is a first-person puzzle game in which the player lives in a wizard’s tower in the Forest of Esotyre. Each day, the player receives a list of tasks under their door and must complete the tasks before the sun sets. The tasks require the player to create magical potions and enchantments from resources in their storage cabinet or in the forest.
How to play
Walk around with WASD and move your camera with the mouse. Press B to open the recipes and use your mouse to cycle through them. Press E to open doors. Click to gather resources. You've been given a recipe book. In the top right of the screen you'll see a quest guiding you what to do. Resources have been scattered throughout the map, and the quest list in the top right gives you hints as to their location. When you hover over resources with your cursor they will light up. Collect resources and craft items to progress through the game. Esc to open the pause menu/exit game.

Like: UI provides a good sense of time and place. Music is relaxing and fits the theme. I feel that there is a sense of style that exists in the 3D models you've chosen.
Dislike: There appears to be a rendering bug that makes the entire landscape yellow on macOS.
Pretty decent so far, I picked them up with no issues. Need more gameplay to get a sense of how it feels when in the situations you expect the player to encounter.
Keep things simple to start! Really think about how you can maximize the fewest number of elements to make something engaging. Rock/Paper/Scissors is a classic game played for thousands of years--start with something that simple and really focus on making it tight. I'd much rather play a game with a very limited set of things to craft that are done well.
Keep going!
I don't know if Its just me but I could not move the camera, the player always looked at the mountans infornt of them. movement NSWE is nice but I dont have any side to side movement.
Clonky.
I have not goten that far in game and Im am very lost so no input on this question.
A more directions at the start of the game.
None so far because I don't realy no what the goal is.
I think the shadows are a bit too dark, it's hard to see the details of anything that isn't in the direct sunlight
They are pretty good. I'd argue that the sensitivity of the camera is a little to low though
How about potions to enhance physical abilities, like running speed, or jump height? Maybe you could make health potions for villagers?
I guess being able to talk to the wizard would be nice
There doesn't seem to be a range limit at which I can no longer enter the tower. I was able to teleport in even from the forest.
I think it looks nice, the start screen was very clean, music was cool..... though I am not sure if this is just a mac bug, but every part of the world was this gross highlighter yellow, like the textures weren't rendering? Trees, mountains, ground, water, rocks- everything YELLOW.
Not sure if this is a known issue, but I mention it just in case you haven't had anyone say something (maybe it's just me).
I think the controls feel great, very natural! Though I might suggest opening the book using some other key than b? Tab would feel more natural to me, but again- perhaps that is just me.
Hmmm, maybe a love potion? A witch's brew?
Maybe as an item, craft a well/water rod? Something that would give you a more general direction of where to find things, and help out?
I can't think of anything at the moment.
None so far. ^^
Seems like a good start. Would have liked for the resource gathering component to be implemented, even if it was stand-in art. That would motivate the player to explore the space. As is it feels quite empty.
Fine. Footsteps depending on surface is a nice touch.
Based on the description, the effect of what is crafted is not important, since the goal is to deliver a completed mixture to the wizard. It seems like you could come up with a large list of random potions/tinctures. The challenge would move to coming up with an engaging set of resources to gather (and gameplay elements to challenge that gathering)
A win(/loss) condition. Or at the least the gameplay loop is completed in some way (receive quest, complete quest) mechanic.
Having a title-screen, pause menu, and music/sound is great! Focus on gameplay!
- The look and feel of the world are very nice and the different footstep sounds are a nice touch.
- The controls feel good, the camera speed is nice, not too fast or slow
- It would be cool to have something to make the water freeze so you can walk across it without sinking in.
- Combat using magic or puzzles
The mountains in the background don't fully show up but apart from that, I am excited to see how this game development progresses.
I think the world looks awesome! I really like the low poly style. The skybox was a little weird but not that bad.
The controls felt natural. I think the player speed could be increased, but only slightly. Or having a sprint would be nice.
There are lots of different ways you could go but maybe wands/staves that have different spells based on different crafting materials. Maybe a magic mirror or something that can teleport you to important locations. A broom or something for flying. You can make some potions that do similar effects if you want to go that direction.
Jump or sprint. Maybe a little tutorial just to point out important locations.
I'm excited to see where you guys will take this game!!
I love the look you guys went with! The texture of the terrain was very cool.
The controls felt good, though the lack of a jump button made the world a bit harder to navigate.
It's hard to give too much insight on recipes or items, because I think there are a number of ways you guys could based on what you have so far.
I'm excited to see what you do with this!
- I walked into the river and can't get out. Sadge. Otherwise, looks really pretty. Lowpoly Skyrim.
- Intuitive. Would like a jump though. Or something. And a sprint.
- Broom.
- Fly on a broom.
- Maybe some indication you're entering a building. Was a bit of a surprise! (Could be as simple as a sound effect to be honest.)
(Like) the aesthetic, I think this game looks realy good.
(don't like)There seem to be no way out of the lake once you fall into it. and there are tree under water.
They feel fine. but like Jarek said a jump would be nice.
Trapping woodland creatures like fairies.
I think I would need to see more to say something about this.
None at the moment. Looks good.
I like the overall look of the game. The interior also looks great. The light from the torches seems to go through walls. Walking feels nice
I think the sensitivity should be increased a little. Also, please increase the field of view. Other than that I'm liking it so far
Maybe you could gather plants/animal parts/fungi and stuff to put into a cauldron and mix potions?
I would like to have a magic wand
In the distance, mountains render at the edge of my vision on the right. It covers the landscape that is already there
What about the current world do you like/don't like?
I like the environment a lot. It feels pretty decently designed and I can't wait to see more of it throughout the development of the game.
How do the controls feel?
Standard movement with WASD, I feel a little slow, and I feel powerless if I get stuck or need to climb a small ledge, maybe a jump would help.
Given the game is focused around magical crafting, do you have any suggestions for recipes or items that would fit the theme?
It depends on how high fantasy you want to go, Magical creature parts are a big thing in alchemy for many fantasy adaptations. Or you can go a little more realistic and do herbs and plants.
Is there anything you hope to do in the game that has not yet been implemented?
I would like to jump even if its just a way to get up small ledges or rocks. Other than that what you have in the current to do is a great start and goal to work towards.
Any other general C&C.
The mountain in the background seems to not come in cleanly with the camera. It may be out of range of the camera's view but that was the only real problem that I saw.
I actually like the fact you can go out of bounds, but maybe a way to fix that is if you do you lose some resources and wake up back at the house.
I also think that the walking sounds may be too loud, but I think I could be overthinking that since that is one of the main things of focus.
The controls feel fine, but I think in a game like this a jump may be nice.
I think in games like this something that is kind of suspected is some sort of flying capability.
Some sort of fight with something much bigger than the player. / maybe just any type of combat
